Ireland-based Facebook developer Betapond introduced a social media marketing platform that utilizes both QR Code technology and Near-Field Communication functionality in order to allow users to check in to locations and earn rewards through their handsets. This NFC social check-in marketing platform is called RewardAble.
RewardAble was designed to help brands or businesses improve and personalize their relationships with their consumers. This new social media check-in platform enables retailers to cultivate consumer participation through instant rewards.
These rewards are given to users who check-in and share their location on Foursquare or Facebook via their NFC-capable handsets. They simply need to tap their mobile phones against a smart poster or an NFC tag, or scan a Quick Response code in order to share their location with friends and other Foursquare or Facebook users.
Moreover, this NFC authenticated service allows consumers to have the highest level of protection and privacy.
What is great about this new social media check-in marketing service is that it has a viral expansion loop baked straight into its model. This means that without users involving their friends and other users in their social network, they don’t get to benefit anything from the RewardAble service.
Betapond’s new service was launched last month during the Innovation in Entertainment Showcase event at Sony Pictures in Hollywood, California. The Irish company said it has already earned the support and participation of leading technology and entertainment companies in the United States.
This is the first time that near-field communication technology was paired with both a loyalty and recommendation program and social media. We have seen QR codes being used to help people check into foursquare venues or allow them to add you on Facebook or follow you on Twitter. This just goes to show that NFC is as flexible as QR codes, and it would only be a matter of time before it is more widely-used than it is now!
